Dean Williamson - Inventor of the FlyPaper Pedal
Dean has been riding off-road for nearly 40 years, since well before the birth of the "mountain bike". He has raced moto-cross and BMX, as well as both cross country and downhill mountain bikes. He has ridden skate parks on his BMX bike, and completed a 3200 mile tour on a road bike. In 1996, Dean became Utah State Champion in the Clydesdale Class, in both Cross Country and Downhill Racing, and also placed third in the State in Veteran's Expert Downhill. This proved him to be a perfect product tester; as not only is he a big guy, but also because he can hammer! He owned Bike Zion, a bike shop in southwestern Utah for 8 1/2 years, during which time he sponsored and was personal mechanic for cliff hucking pioneer, Josh Bender. Years of working with the world's most extreme and abusive rider, as he pushed both the limits of his equipment and the sport of mountain biking; gave Dean an incredible, real world hands-on understanding of materials science, design strengths and design limitations. Much of this knowledge and experience was applied to the design of the FlyPaper Pedals, optimizing both their strength and performance.
Dean worked with the Bureau of Land Management (B.L.M.) to help build and dedicate the Gooseberry Mesa Trail Network, the Little Creek Mountain Trail Network, the Hurricane Rim Trail and many others. In 1998, while doing location scouting for Thor Wixom's extreme mountain bike movie, "Down", Dean discovered and showed the world what would soon become the site of the Red Bull Rampage, the event that changed mountain biking forever. When it came time to put the Rampage together, Dean worked as a liason between the B.L.M. and Red Bull's event producer, Global Event Management, to lay out the course, and secure the permit for the event.
Photos of Dean riding his bike have appeared in Mountain Biking Magazine, twice in Mountain Bike Action Magazine, as cover shots on three different mountain biking calendars, the cover of a popular trail guide book, and as the only biking photo in the first edition of the coffee table book, "Utah on My Mind, The Best of Utah in Words and Photographs" by Falcon Press.
Dean has worked for five different production companies on over a dozen mountain bike movies, and even ridden in two of them! He has also written travel articles for Mountain Bike Action Magazine and Mountain Biking Magazine, as well as for several regional publications; and Bike Magazine has published two articles about him.
Never satisfied with "good enough" Dean has made several of his own parts for his bikes and modified many others. He currently lives in beautiful Sedona, Arizona, a truly rugged mountain biking mecca. There are over a dozen and a half trailheads within a 15 minute bike ride from his house, giving him a perfect environment to conduct year-round product testing.

Dean Refuses to grow up!
